Epiphany 101

First up - a house without a washing machine is a very dull place to be - tomorrow, I spend most of the morning in the laundrette’s. Woot.
It does mean, however, I’m spending the day washing clothes, and writing.
I picked up an Ipod this week so I’ll have my music - I can take paper and a couple of pens with me - and a book, if I stop being able to concentrate on writing so its all good.
They fix my washing machine (I hope!) on Friday - or at least, will tell me that its irreparable, and will at least allow me to bring up MY washing machine from the garage, and we can sort out the rest of it later.
And the epiphany - I can write, if I choose to. I can CHOOSE to ignore the other things that distract me - like overblogging, and playing too many games on the PC, and just surfcrastinating. I CAN seal myself off in my room with my ipod (cause most of my ‘problem’ with going off and just writing is no music, cause I’m too dammed lazy to pick up my external drive) and just write. We’re going to put up a book case in here and everything, so I’m really going to have absolutely no excuse by the end of the month.
I loved the Nano this year, but I’ve ground to a halt. In all fairness, I’m catching up on Uni work, and cleaning up Booksbykai.
I think that the train is about to leave though, so here’s the epiphany - if you NEED to make yourself comfortable, to write, then do so. If you’ve stopped writing, see if you’ve changed your routine any, and if at all possible, put whatever you’ve ‘changed’ back, or take whatever it is away that’s causing it.
OK, in my case, I can’t move back to Edinburgh, but I can, at least, rebuild my playlists, and extend on them and start writing again. I think it’ll actually work.

Good thought and great revelation (for us writers). That’s what I partly love about the “portability” of writing. Have laptop or paper and pen- we travel..If you happen to read that interview w/ Shirley on the Mama needs a Book Contract site (I’m pretty sure by Carol?) she also says how she links every book to a song and that her I-pod get her into the zone to write…Great idea..since my kids (okay teens-but that makes me sound old and mature!) have one of the ancient (kids words) 1st edition Ipods, think I’ll be begging for a tune downloading session after school today…Otherwise I be blasting the CD’s today…Thanks for the great idea..
